ΣΟΜΦ started off as the natural progression of the many nocturnal debates on aesthetics and fashion. Mariaflora has a fashion background working in the London fashion scene, after graduating from Central St. Martin's whereas Olivia a web designer by trade always looked for a creative outlet through fashion, together they decided to create a sorority, based on similar ideas.
Their first capsule collection A/W 10, entitled "new world order" was inspired by mysticism, the occult and religion as well as the distinctive Maori tribe tattoos. Dresses, t-shirts, bodies and collants, silk screen printed on flesh and tan jerseys aiming to create the illusion of full body tattoos, sold out in record time. Their second collection S/S 11,"the aftermath" expands the ideas explored on the previous one. Mainly geometric and bold, the designs are inspired by art, tradition and symbolism through time. Forms and colours are adjusted to season without losing the initial concept.
The following collection AW11 "Asphodel Meadows", inspired by recent events, has a more aggressive approach in prints and is the first ΣΟΜΦ attempt to bite their teeth into non-print styles, focusing on materials such as lace.
The current SS12 collection "Flowered Up", takes inspiration from the ultimate geometry one finds in nature, the Pythagorean theorem and its connection to the pentagram, through the eyes of Donald Duck in the land of Mathematics. A small tribute to the embroidered costumes of the Flying Burrito Brothers and the Athenian rave clubs of the 90s, complete the background of the biggest ΣΟΜΦ collection to date, one that includes, skirts, hotpants, tops, dresses, leggings and swimwear in various colours and prints.
